What I Do: Psychotherapy

Does your life history create obstacles for you when you try to move toward your goals? Do you have internal scripts or messages that hold you back? Is it challenging to create and maintain new healthier behaviors?

If you answered yes, psychotherapy is for you…

Benefits of therapy:

  • Increase your self-esteem
  • Lower your symptoms of depression or anxiety
  • Work through a trauma and its painful after-effects
  • Remediate the difficulties that your life experiences or family of origin may have created in your life
  • Improve your relationships
  • Clear away obstacles to success at work and in your personal life
  • Change negative behaviors
  • Reduce fears and stress

Process

Initial session (1-2 hours) - During this session, we get to know one another and complete an in-depth history of your clinical symptoms, previous therapy, and personal and family dynamics. This session helps you clarify your goals for our work together, and begins to identify the areas where you need to make changes.

Regular therapy sessions (usually 1 hour) - During these in-person sessions, we work on the issues you identified as needing change. We discuss all aspects of your life and challenge any faulty beliefs you may have. In addition, we consider the impact of your family of origin and life experiences. For those who have experienced a trauma, we focus on symptom control and restoring function in everyday life.

If psychotherapy sounds like it would make a difference in your life, please contact me to set up a time to talk.

Beth's use of Positive Psychology was a bright light. She encouraged me to do some reading and got me thinking about my life, the quality of my life and how to make myself happier instead of just less sad.
